What strategies would an agency use to help me rank on Google?

If you want simplification here's what an SEO agency would do for you if you hired them

1) Create Content: While you could create your own, you may not be an expert writer or editor, so an agency can help you choose topics relevant to your business and create them, Sometimes they will act as a ghostwriter for your staff members. Ensure they produce great, long form content that is better than any other competing content out there. Better to produce one amazingly detailed and helpful post than 10 short crappy posts that are copies of other weak, useless info.

2) Attract Links: A good SEO or digital agency will help share your content so another web site - preferably related to the topic yours covers - will link to your content. Get your content linked by other sites is critical for your site to rank. Make sure those sites have high authority. That means that if Google thinks they are good sites and they link to your content, then your content must be good too. You can test a site’s authority by using AHREFS.com’s have a site explorer tool show a site’s authority.

MOZ .com also has an authority checker called open site explorer.

3) Fast: An agency's web engineers will check your website and technically adjust it so that it will respond faster, which helps with its search ranking on Google and Bing.

4) Mobile: An agency should also do an audit of your site to ensure it is response. That means it displays well on all devices: computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets. This is something that is checked by Google and Bing and is an indicator of a quality website.

There are 1000 more rules and tweaks and tactics that an SEO expert or agency will do, but what’s above should be fundamental to start your SEO strategy.
